Fluorine-free polymers specifically designed for textile applications. They provide durable water repellence (DWR) effect and stain release properties to the treated materials. New environmentally friendly C6 and C0 type water repellents can not only repel water and oil, but also comply with EU laws that have completely banned the usage of PFCs.
In order to be more eco-friendly, U-long is now using C6 and C0 water repellent agent to produce related products. These fabrics are water and oil repellent, and have smooth hand feel at the same time.
What Is Fluorocarbon (FC) Or PFCs ?
Perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) is a stable synthetic chemical substance with water and oil repellent effects. The two most commonly used perfluorinated compounds are PFOA and PFOS. PFOA (perfluorooctanoic acid), which is commonly used in the production of high-performance fluoropolymers such as Teflon and other processing aids. PFOS (perfluorooctane sulfonic acid), is used in surface treatment.
What Is Its Application?
Because of its feature are oil and water resistance, it is also widely used as an auxiliary agent for water repellent and oil repellent treatment in textiles, carpets, shoe materials and other manufacturing fields which required the surface-repellent treatment.
Why Is PFOA / PFOS Restricted?
Studies have shown that perfluorocarbons can affect reproduction and once released into the environment, they will be distributed in the atmosphere. They are highly persistent, which means they will stay in the environment for a long time. PFOA can stay in the human body for up to four years, and animal experiments have confirmed that such compounds can cause tumors, while the compounds contained in PFOS persist in the surrounding environment and tend to accumulate In human and animal tissues, and cause toxic damage, may cause human respiratory problems.
The United Nations Department of Environmental Issues (UNEP) also officially announced in December 2007 that PFOS is one of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), so it must be restricted.
