Where design becomes fabric

A fabric specification, no matter how detailed, cannot reveal how the material will actually perform until it is woven, finished, and tested. That is why our Fabric Sample & Prototype Workshop is designed to translate engineering data into physical fabric samples as quickly and accurately as possible. Every new Seekingtex fabric construction — and every significant custom development — passes through this workshop before production tooling is committed.

The workshop is fully equipped for simultaneous sampling of woven, knitted, and non-woven constructions with various coating and finishing options. This parallel-workflow approach cuts prototype lead time to 2-4 weeks from engineering release, compared to the industry norm of 6-8 weeks. When your application demands a specialized solution, we can move from concept to finished sample in under a month.

The prototype journey — step by step

  1. Engineering handover — The design package (fabric construction spec, FEA report, bill of materials, finishing recipe) is formally reviewed by the workshop lead and the project engineer. Any manufacturing concerns are flagged and resolved before sampling begins.
  2. Fabric production — The fabric is produced according to the engineering specification. For woven: the weave pattern is loaded from the CAD system. For knitted: the stitch structure is programmed. For non-woven: the web formation parameters are set.
  3. Finishing & coating — The greige fabric is processed through the finishing range. Coatings are applied using the specified method and cured under controlled conditions.
  4. Performance testing — Samples are cut and sent to the Textile Performance Testing Lab for evaluation. Results are compared against the target specification.
  5. Prototype review — A formal sign-off meeting is held with engineering, production, and quality teams. Any required design changes are documented and incorporated into the final specification.

Our sampling team

The workshop is staffed by six multi-skilled textile technicians, each cross-trained in at least two core disciplines (weaving, knitting, coating, finishing). The team lead is a master textile technologist with 16 years of experience spanning custom sampling to full production runs. Every prototype is assigned a dedicated project engineer who serves as the single point of contact for the client throughout the development process.

Client involvement

We actively encourage our clients to review key milestones during the prototype development — particularly the initial greige fabric inspection and the finished sample evaluation. Your feedback during these stages is invaluable in fine-tuning the fabric before it enters production. We do not sample in a vacuum; we sample in partnership with you.
